Today, smartphones are developed so that the hinge can be folded outwards. This restricts the phone in terms of user experience. Honor’s new concept reduces thickness and cost by folding the screen outwards. Honor also hints that the V Purse concept will serve as a bag.
What does the outward foldable Honor V Purse concept promise?
Honor unveiled a new concept device at IFA 2023. The V Purse features an outward-folding hinge that measures just 9 mm thick. This makes it even thinner than phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4.
When opened, the V Purse features a tablet-sized screen on the inside and an interactive Always-On Display (AOD) design on the outside. Honor stated that the AOD design was created in collaboration with fashion designers from brands such as Burberry. This design, which includes replacement chains, makes it possible to use the V Purse as a bag.
The V Purse is just a concept for now. However, the Chinese manufacturer said it will open its AOD design to developers and designers globally. Honor also claims that this outward-folding screen can withstand more than 400,000 folds.
According to Honor, sustainability was the main focus for the concept device. While the outer casing of the phone is made of vegan leather, the hardware is made of environmentally friendly materials. Other technical specifications of the phone were not disclosed.
We don’t know if the future of foldable phones will intersect with the fashion world. However, the V Purse concept reflects a different design by combining fashion and technology.
